EndNote Looks Good

November 17th, 2005 · Posted in Research ·

I downloaded a demo copy of EndNote a couple of weeks ago and tried it out for some of my hardcore academic research. It really is a slick program and I have found that many of the libraries cater to it. Apparently, it is quite popular with researchers, although I had not been aware of it until recently.

EndNote organizes your bibliographic information and will interface with Microsoft Word to cite as you write. When you want to reference one of the bibio entries in your database as you are writing in Word, it links with EndNote through a plug-in and puts the proper citation in the text of your paper as well as adding the reference to your bibliography, if the reference has not been previously cited. It covers dozens of the most common biblio formats and will download data directly from library searches. I will report on it more as I have a chance to use it more thoroughly.

Computer-assisted research will also be the topic of my first Professor Geek Podcast, which I am putting the finishing touches on now.
